Experimental Studies of Solids Hosting Large/Unique Responses

Development of interesting phenomena by focusing special spatial arrangement of electron density and/or spin density and consequent symmetry breaking.
  1. Material Design: Exploration of special spatial arrangements of charge and spin
  2. Quantum-beam Measurements: synchrotron x-ray and neutron scattering
  3. Macroscopic Measurements: See below.

We are now interested in

Large Magnetoelectric Effects Large change in electric (magnetic) polarization induced by the application of a magnetic (electric) field.
Magnetocapacitance Effect Large change in dielectric response by the application of a magnetic field.
Unique Magneto-optic Effect Directional Dichroism (Birefringence)
Crystallographic chirality in a magnetic field. Induction and reversal of crystallographic chirality
Spin-orbit Coupling Exploration of magnetic shape memory effects and unique excitations.
Field control of orbital order Switching of orbital order by the application of a field.
